About The Plaza Hotel & Suites

The Plaza Hotel & Suites is Eau Claire, Wisconsin’s largest hotel and convention facility in the area, featuring newly remodeled guest rooms and suites, ample banquet/convention facilities, two restaurants – Burgundy’s and Brewski’s – and all of the amenities you expect, including a pool, lounge areas, fitness facilities, and more. The Plaza is host to numerous local, regional, and national conferences, and is one of the area’s favorite locations for weddings, receptions, family reunions, and other large group events.

History of The Plaza

The Plaza Hotel & Suites opened in 1963 as the six-story Holiday Inn, built by the McGuire family. It became a landmark with its unique round tower. The family operated the hotel until Mr. McGuire’s passing. In the early 90’s, the hotel was purchased by Mike Rivers, of Winona, MN, who remains the owner to this day. With a background in real estate sales and construction, Rivers restored and renovated the property. It became the Ramada Inn Conference Center and was awarded “The Gold Key” rating.

In 1999, the hotel added two additional ballrooms, expanding the total banquet space to 28,000 square feet. With 15 banquet meeting spaces, the hotel could accommodate larger conventions. The decision was also made to become an independently owned and operated hotel and was named The Plaza Hotel & Suites.
